Trying to Talk to Companies on Twitter

This week in my ENC2135 class, we were assigned to locate and follow five of our favorite brands on Twitter and try to get them to talk to us on our class accounts. Twitter is a great avenue for franchises, companies, and brands to converse with their consumers if they so please. One more recent example that was shared around social media was Wendy's, the fast food company, would roast people who mentioned them in a negative way, but it worked very well for the company. Many people responded positively to it, sharing it around the web saying how funny it was. The five brands I chose to follow this week were the St. Louis Cardinals, HBO, H&M, Vans, and Levi's, all companies in which I sport and subscribe to. Unfortunately, I was not able to garner any of these brands' attention, which was quite a shame, but I did enjoy trying to do so. It felt like I was in this passive state of internet paparazzi wherein I was shouting at these companies yet received nothing. I especially wanted to get HBO's attention, as they have me hooked on so many shows such as Westworld, Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, and Vice Principals. I tweeted at them three times, all of which were inevitably unsuccessful, however they don't seem to really mention or retweet many of their fans anyway. While this venture was fruitless I did happen to catch the eye of a YouTube channel last semester named Cow Chop, a co-op gaming channel owned by Roosterteeth. Now, this was last semester and it wasn't on a class account, but it shows that brands do care about their supporters and wish to stay involved, so I feel like I should share it
One of the people on the channel, James (aka UberHaxorNova) is known on his separate channel to sport what he calls his "Squiggly Cup." There was high demand from fans for Cow Chop to mass produce them, so they reached out to the company who made them and started selling them with the Cow Chop emblem on them. I got my hands on them, and once it arrived in the mail I posted a picture of it on twitter with the caption: "I don't regret a single penny." within 30 minutes of posting they shared my tweet, which really awesome to be noticed by a group that I've been following for nearly five years. So while this week my attempt to reach out to brands was futile, I've had success in the past and it let me know that the people working at Cow Chop care about their fan base.
